5D MkII Goes Up Against "Proper" Video Cameras

Zacuto's Great Camera Shootout '08 from Steve Weiss, Zacuto USA on Vimeo.

Zacuto have brought together four film makers and asked them to choose between a range of cameras starting at the top end with film, the Red One, all the way to the Nikon D90. In the mix was also the Canon 5D MkII.
At the end out the "shoot out", two of the four film makers picked the Canon 5D MkII as their camera of choice for documentary work.

You can watch a bigger version here. There is also a 720p HD version to download from the site. You need to first register for free and then download the M4V version which is to the right of the Vimeo page.

  1. Interesting comments, we've started using the EX3's at work. Nice cameras, I guess like was said "anyone of these cameras can give you a good result" with all of the other factors that were mentioned. Still want a 5D Mk 2 though!.. :-)

  2. Being a complete novice at this whole video think, I had to Google what a EX3 was - wow, looks like a pretty serious piece of kit!
The 5D MkII though is a serious visual tool though for video - it just opens up so much creatively. I'm hoping to shoot my first "film" tomorrow (weather permitting!) - I'm rather nervous but very excited by the prospect!!

  3. I looked long and hard at the EX3, it is very now glad I waited as the 5D suits better.
Looking forward to your film! I f you need someone to film you filming (if you see what I mean!) Let me know...

  4. Hi Simon,

  5. Ok, no problem. Would be good to get some footage of you for your blog :)
I know you have lots of kit....I have a 200mm f2 if you want to borrow....would be fun on the 5D!!!

  6. That 200mm f2 is stunning. Have played with it a few times and its just always impressed!!
Alas the filming had to be postponed for tonight. If the situation allows it, I'll let you know. Many thanks for the offer. Actually, can you email me your contact details?!

  7. And if you need stills of you being filmed, filming... ha!

Looking forward to seeing your results.
